Drivers in north Devon face a 26-mile (42km) detour for the next two months while a small section of flood-damaged road is repaired.

Heavy rain in December caused a landslide which damaged the A377 at Kingford Bridge, near Umberleigh.

Although 100m (330ft) of road has to be repaired, a seven-mile section has been closed to traffic.

Devon County Council said the work was necessary to prevent further damage which could impact on safety.

The seven-week detour will see motorists diverted from Kingford Bridge to Umberleigh, via South Molton.

The road is due to reopen at the end of October and drivers have been advised to allow extra time for their journeys.
