Thousands of chicks die in Devon fire

Thousands of young chickens have died after a fire on a Devon farm.

The fire swept through a chicken shed at Thorverton, near Crediton, killing about 3,500 chicks, Devon and Somerset Fire Service said.

Fire crews extinguished the fire and removed a number of gas cylinders from the area after being called to the incident at about 16:00 BST.

The cause of the fire, which left half the 180m (590ft) long chicken shed damaged, is being investigated.
