Man arrested after assault on Ashburton football referee
A man has been arrested after a referee was assaulted during an amateur football match in Devon.
Referee Donald Distin, a local councillor, was officiating between Torre FC and Ashburton FC Reserves when he was attacked.
Devon and Cornwall Police said a 25-year-old man from Paignton had been arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm.
The man was released on bail until 9 June.
Mr Distin, a former mayor, was taken to Torbay Hospital with facial injuries, after the attack on 4 May.
Torre FC has now withdrawn from the South Devon Football League following the abandonment of the match.
