Dawlish crash: Woman's car pushed up hill by lorry

A woman is in hospital with life-threatening head injuries after her car was struck from behind by a lorry.

The woman, in her 60s and from Bovey Tracy, was in a car on the A379, outside The Smugglers Inn in Dawlish, Devon, at about 19:00 BST on Wednesday.

Police said the woman's Daewoo Matiz was pushed "a considerable distance uphill" after being hit by a Renault Master flatbed.

The woman was airlifted to hospital and the road closed for about five hours.

The collision occurred when the woman was waiting behind another vehicle waiting to turn right into the pub's car park.

The condition of the woman at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, is described as critical.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the driver of the flatbed lorry suffered minor injuries,
