The funeral of an ex-youth footballer who died after an altercation at a taxi rank has been held in Devon.

Former Plymouth Argyle youth player Alex Peguero Sosa, 17, from Aveton Gifford, died after being injured in Kingsbridge on 6 July.

At the time, police said he suffered a serious neck wound. His funeral was held at St Edmund Church in Kingsbridge.

Two men have been charged in connection with his death.

'Very fitting'

Mandy Tucker, who lives near Mr Peguero Sosa's family, said Alex had attended a pre-school she ran.

She said: "I remembered him best when he was four.

"But even then he loved sports and we had photographs of him playing and dancing with his friends."

Carol Gravis, from Salcombe, said she felt the funeral was "very fitting for a 17-year-old lad".

She said: "The songs were beautiful, the poems were beautiful and it was a very nice service."

In July, hundreds of people attended a vigil for the teenager on Plymouth Hoe.
