A cordon has been put in place in Exeter city centre after a gas main was fractured by workmen.

The fire service said the main in Longbrook Street was damaged at about 14:00 BST while builders were renovating an empty shop.

Parts of New North Road, Blackall Road, Sidwell Street and Paris Street were closed and a 330ft (100m) cordon put in place.

Wales & West Utilities said engineers were making repairs to the main.
