A Grade II listed thatched house near Exeter has been destroyed in a fire.

The blaze at Underwood House, near Ide, broke out at about 08:30 GMT and 70 firefighters attempted to save the building.

Curtains caught alight in the six-bedroom building, which dated back to the 17th Century.

No one was hurt, including the house's 80-year-old owner. Fire crews sprayed foam on to nearby thatched properties as a preventative measure.
