Dawlish man in court over Sophie McDonald murder

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of his estranged wife in Devon.

James McDonald, 36, of Iddesleigh Terrace, Dawlish, is charged with murdering Sophie McDonald, also 36.

Her body was found at an address in Iddesleigh Terrace early on Thursday morning.

Mr McDonald, who made no plea, was remanded in custody by Exeter magistrates to appear at the city's crown court on 3 February.

Mrs McDonald's family, who were in court, have described her as a "loving mum, daughter, sister and friend".
