A detective constable with Devon and Cornwall Police has been suspended and is being investigated following allegations of gross misconduct.

Exeter-based Det Con Mark Uren, 42, was suspended on 6 April after a complaint in November 2014, the force said.

Devon and Cornwall Police said it would be "inappropriate to comment further" while the officer remained suspended.

The police's Professional Standards Department (PSD) is investigating the allegation.

It said: "This means that, if proved, those involved could face a misconduct hearing which carries a number of sanctions, the most serious of which is dismissal."

The PSD said the suspension was "not a prejudgement of the outcome of the investigation, it is to protect the force and preserve public confidence."

The Independent Police Complaints Commission said: "We received a referral from Devon and Cornwall Constabulary in respect of the conduct of a detective constable in February this year.

"We determined the complaint was suitable for local investigation by the force's Professional Standards Department."
