Illegal Afghan immigrant clung to Poole-bound lorry
An Afghan man found clinging to the axle of a lorry on board a freight ferry from Cherbourg has been deported.
The 47-year-old was detained after being discovered under the Polish-registered lorry in Poole and removed to France.
UK Border Agency officers found the man on Thursday but details have only been released.
The driver and haulage company face a fine if they are unable to prove they took steps to secure the vehicle.
Officers also deported two Moroccan men in Poole after they arrived illegally on board a ferry from Santander.
The pair, who gave their ages as 19 and 24, were removed to Spain on 14 July.
Carole Upshall, head of UK Border Agency operations in Poole, said: "As this case shows, people often resort to desperate and dangerous measures to evade our controls."
