Pistol and shotgun found buried at Dorset country park

Two guns have been found buried in the grounds of a country park in Dorset by a member of the public.

The pistol and sawn-off shotgun were discovered in Upton Country Park, in Poole, within the past few weeks.

Police were alerted and made the weapons safe. Forensic examination of the firearms is continuing.

Officers have appealed for help and witnesses but said the exact date of the discovery was not being revealed for investigative reasons.

A police spokesman said: "I would urge anyone who recalls any suspicious activity in the Upton Country Park area over the last few weeks to get in touch as soon as possible."
