Christchurch mayor opens new £230,000 water park
A £230,000 water park has been officially opened in Dorset after a successful campaign by residents.
The splash park on Christchurch Quay has replaced the old 1940s pool, which has undergone a number of temporary repairs in recent years.
A partnership group was set up when it was suggested the pool may have to close.
The new park, with a paddling area, water sprays and landscaping, was opened by the town mayor Nick Geary.
The councillor said: "We finally see the results of this community-based project that is built for the 21st Century.
"It provides an innovative, interactive, educational and exciting water-based play area for the local community and visitors to Christchurch which we hope generations of children can enjoy."
Christchurch council provided £100,000 for the scheme with the rest coming from a lottery grant.
The campaign included a Facebook group which has attracted hundreds of members.
