Two safe after would-be rescue went wrong in Weymouth

Published
The coastguard has issued a warning after a failed rescue attempt resulted in two men being pulled to safety.
A man had got into difficulty swimming in water by the stone pier at Weymouth harbour entrance, Dorset, just after midnight on Thursday.
But Weymouth RNLI Inshore Lifeboat had to rescue two men after the person who raised the alarm climbed down the pier in an unsuccessful bid to help.
The coastguard said the would-be rescuer had put his own life in danger.
