Piglets and sows die in Portland fire after heavy rain

Five sows and their piglets have died in a Dorset shed fire.

Crews were called to the blaze, at Grove Farm, Portland, at about 0030 BST after an electrical fire caused by heavy rainfall.

Two other sows and their piglets were rescued by firefighters who tackled the fire which had broken out in the roof of the shed.

Twenty sows and their piglets were unhurt by the fire and smoke, Dorset Fire and Rescue Service said.
