Weymouth and Portland councillor on trial for assault

A Weymouth and Portland councillor charged with assault is to go on trial.

Christine James, 51, who represents Westham North, was held over an alleged attack on a man in August.

She was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Ms James pleaded not guilty at Weymouth Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

She will appear at the same court on 30 November. The Liberal Democrat councillor was first elected to the council in 2004.

Ms James is the cabinet member for transport and infrastructure.
