Christmas cards stolen from Gillingham postbox

Money from Christmas cards has been stolen after a postbox in rural Dorset was targeted by a thief.

Discarded letters and packages were found dumped in bushes in Gillingham by the nearby river.

The overflowing postbox, in Rolls Bridge Way, was targeted on 12 December but police have only just released details following the discovery.

Officers are appealing to people who may have been affected and have urged witnesses to come forward.

Pc Maureen Hayward, of Gillingham police, said: "It appears that the offender has stolen the mail and searched through the letters and packages, before disposing of a number of cards and other types of correspondence.

"We have recovered one particular Christmas card that looks as if it contained money but sadly we have not yet been able to trace the sender or the intended recipient."
