Dorset drivers urged to share car journeys

A free car sharing scheme in Dorset is urging more people to sign up in the new year to save money and help the environment.

Car Share Dorset is a partnership between the county council, Bournemouth and Poole councils and Liftshare, the UK's largest car sharing organisation.

It says drivers can save about £800 a year by car sharing to work every day.

Its 3,000th member will receive £25 in high street shopping vouchers, a spokesperson for the scheme said.

'Finding a match'

Chris Hook, Dorset County Council's workplace travel plan co-ordinator, said: " is approaching an exciting milestone by signing up our 3,000th member.

"The more people who sign up, the greater their chances of finding a match.

"There are people all around the county making similar journeys from home to work every day.

"If everybody shared once a week, that would reduce commuter congestion by 10% at a stroke. There's nothing to lose."
