A 92-year-old man has been assaulted and injured by robbers in his home in Dorset.
Four men entered his house on Ham Lane, in the Longham area of Ferndown, through an open back door, hit him and demanded money before fleeing.
The pensioner suffered facial injuries in the attack at about 2000 GMT on Thursday. He was treated at the scene by paramedics.
Police said the men got away with a significant amount of money.
Det Con Liz Westaway, of Dorset Police, said: "One of these men struck the pensioner, while the others searched the house.
"This was a vicious and cowardly attack that has, understandably, left the victim extremely shaken."
She said the men where aged between 25 and 30 and were wearing dark outdoor clothing. One of them wore a navy blue jacket, a woollen hat and had a scarf covering his face.
Police have appealed for witnesses.
