Poole binmen work to clear backlog

Binmen in Poole, Dorset, have been working to clear a backlog of rubbish and recycling after the recent heavy snow fall, the council has said.

Borough of Poole said it cancelled its collections during the week beginning 20 December because it was unsafe for its staff.

There were also no collections between 27 and 31 December due to the holidays.

Crews have been working from 0630 GMT to 2200 GMT every day this week to clear the backlog.

"By the end of Friday, 7 January 2011 every household in Poole will have received a refuse collection," a spokesman said.

"Residents in Canford Heath, Hamworthy, Oakdale, Canford Cliffs and Parkstone who missed one collection as a result of the annual Christmas week closedown will receive their scheduled recycling collection on the week commencing Monday, 10 January 2011.

"Additional bags of recycling will be taken."

Residents are being urged to check the date of their next collection by entering their postcode on the council website.
