Fire severely damages rural house in Dorset

A house near Bournemouth Airport in Dorset has been severely damaged in a fire which broke out in the first floor and roof.

Crews were called to the rural property in Mill Lane, Hurn, at about 1500 GMT.

About 40 firefighters were at the scene at the height of the blaze, along with seven fire engines and support vehicles.

Crews used an aerial ladder platform to tackle the blaze which had been put out by 1555 GMT.

Dorset Fire and Rescue incident commander Mick Stead said: "This has been a very intense fire but luckily there wasn't anyone in the property at the time it started."

Mr Stead said there was severe water and fire damage to the property and an investigation to find the cause was under way.
