About 35 firefighters have tackled a large fire in the roof space of a building behind a bakery in Dorset.

Crews were called at 0541 BST to the blaze to the rear of George's Bakery in East Street, Bridport.

Police shut the road in both directions at the request of fire crews but the bakery is open as usual.

No-one has been hurt and the cause of the fire is not yet known, a Dorset fire service spokeswoman said.

Station Commander Phil Allen said: "The fire took hold of the whole roof and fire crews worked hard to prevent it spreading any further using hose reel and main jets.

"The bakery is open as usual as it is not affected by the fire."
