A ban on outdoor dining and drinking at cafes and bars in a seaside Dorset resort could be agreed later.

The new licensing rules would ban outdoor dining at cafes and bars in Weymouth before 08:00 and after 23:00 each day.

Weymouth and Portland Borough Council is set to approve the controversial proposals at a meeting later.

If passed the rule would come in from August, when the town will be hosting the Olympic sailing events.

The council said it would consider applications for sitting out licences on a case-by-case basis.

There will also be new fees and premises would have to have security staff, CCTV and no customers standing.

The first round of consultation led to a 2,000-signature petition from cafes and bars worried about trade.
