Damaged Burton Road bridge to be replaced

Work begins later to replace a footbridge over the busy A35 Christchurch bypass.

The Burton Road footbridge was deemed unsafe by engineers after it was weakened by collisions.

The road will be closed overnight until Thursday to allow support structures to be installed. The old bridge will also be removed on Wednesday, 6 June.

The new £1m bridge is expected to open in mid-June and will be higher, safer and easier for disabled people to use.

Overnight diversions will be in place between 20:00 BST and 06:00 via the B3569 Somerford Road and B3059 Purewell Cross Road.
