Bournemouth rape victim support centre opens

Rape and sex abuse victims are to receive help at a support centre which has opened in Bournemouth.

ARC Dorset, led by the police and health service in Dorset, provides multi-agency support.

Services include crisis support, counselling, health and welfare advice and help from police forensic teams.

Det Supt Sara Glen, from Dorset Police, said: "We want victims to feel safe and sheltered at what is a very traumatic time for them."

She added: "Whereas previously it would not have been clear to a victim the full range of service available to them following an attack, now they can access multi-agency support by picking up the telephone to ARC Dorset.

"This means that initially, when everything is still so raw, they will not have to explain their story over and over again."
