A man found dead on a Dorset beach appears to have been injured by a boat propeller, police have said.

The body of Rico Dardis, 30, was found in water near groynes at Seaway Avenue, Christchurch on Monday evening.

Police said he had sustained injuries which appeared to be caused by propeller. A knife was also recovered.

They have been given more time to question two Bournemouth men, aged 49 and 51, arrested on suspicion of murder.

The family of Mr Dardis said: "The death of Rico has caused us great distress and we are grieving for the tragic loss of a son, brother and father.

"We ask that our privacy is respected and we are given time and space at this difficult time."

Police said investigations had been carried out at addresses in Drury Lane, Wick Lane, and Hamilton Road on Tuesday, with neighbourhood teams in the areas to offer reassurance.
