A road in Dorset, where a woman and a motorcyclist were killed in a crash, was closed briefly for family and friends to pay tribute.

Janice Short, 63, and motorcyclist James Fryman, 23, known as Max, were killed on the A354 in Weymouth on Saturday.

The road was closed for mourners between Swannery Bridge and Chafeys Roundabout between 18:45 and 19:00 BST.

Dorset Police asked motorists to take alternative routes.

The crash happened shortly after 17:00 on Saturday. Afterwards, Mr Fryman's former school paid tribute to him.

"Deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Max Fryman. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family and friends at this difficult time," Wey Valley School said on Twitter.

Mrs Short had moved to Weymouth from Leighton Buzzard with her husband, Andrew, a year ago.

Mr Short said: "Her wonderful spirit, love and enthusiasm will be missed every day by everyone who was fortunate enough to know her."

Mrs Short leaves three children and six grandchildren.

An inquest into Mrs Short's and Mr Fryman's deaths was opened and adjourned in Bournemouth earlier.
