Motorists face disruption after high winds brought down a power cable in Dorchester as the remnants of Hurricane Gonzalo reached the UK.

Old Sherborne Road, which runs from the county town to Sherborne, is expected to be shut until 22:00 BST between Dorchester and Charminster.

Southern Electric apologised and said 20 people were left without power in the Lower Burton area as a result.

Earlier, residents in Weymouth were warned to prepare for flooding.

The Environment Agency's warnings for the Sea Life Centre and Preston Beach Road in the Lodmoor area of the town have now been lifted.

The National Coastguard lookout station at Portland Bill recorded wind speeds of more than 70mph.
