A fire has forced the closure of a school in Dorset.

The blaze was discovered in the head teacher's office at West Moors Middle School in Ferndown at about 06:30 GMT.

Parents and pupils were told the school would remain closed on Wednesday after smoke and fumes entered the corridor and put the first aid room out of use.

The comprehensive school said no-one was hurt and the fire damage was confined to one room. The cause is not yet known.

It is not yet clear whether the school will be able to reopen on Thursday.

West Moors Middle School is attended by about 200 pupils, aged 9 to 13.
