Lifeboat rescue for Clacton's Round the Pier swim girl

A teenager has been treated in hospital after getting into difficulties in the sea off the Essex coast.

The 15-year-old girl was taking part in Clacton Swimming Club's Round The Pier swim on Sunday when she had to be rescued by a lifeboat crew.

Thames Coastguard said the girl was given oxygen before being taken to hospital suffering from shock.

The organised swim is a 1200m (1312yd) tide-assisted swim from the east side of Clacton pier to the west side.
