Sex attack on woman by riverbank in Chelmsford

A woman has been the victim of a serious sexual assault near the riverside in Chelmsford.

The woman, in her 20s, from the Romford area, was walking near Lockside Marina in the early hours of Saturday.

She was assaulted by a man who had dragged her into bushes, close to the riverbank. She received cuts and bruises and was very shaken up.

She got a taxi to take her back home and police are keen to trace the taxi driver.

The woman had been out with friends for the evening and left Que Pasa in the town centre at about 0220 BST to get something to eat.

She walked a short distance and got lost before the attack happened, said police.

The attacker is described as white, with short dark hair, medium build, aged between 20 to 25 years, possibly wearing a black tee shirt.

Anyone who was in the town centre area in the early hours of Saturday morning or anyone living in or near Lockside Marina who remembers seeing or hearing anything unusual is asked to call Essex Police.
