Extra powers for security staff in Basildon

Security staff at a shopping centre in Essex are set to get new powers to tackle anti-social behaviour in a scheme backed by police.

After being trained and vetted, staff at the Eastgate Centre in Basildon will be able to issue fixed penalty notices for littering and graffiti.

They will also be able to demand names and address from offenders and pass these on to police.

The centre is now part of the Community Safety Accreditation Scheme (CSAS).
