Driver dies as truck strikes tree off A12 in Essex

A 27-year-old man died when his pick-up truck left the A12 in Essex and struck a tree.

The white Ford Transit flatbed truck was travelling northbound when the driver lost control at Ingatestone on Tuesday evening.

It left the carriageway on the nearside and hit a tree. The driver, who was the only occupant, died at the scene.

The carriageway was closed for four hours while the scene was examined and the vehicle recovered.

Police said they believe the driver was a Polish man from north-west London.

They are appealing for witnesses to contact them.
