Council in Essex invites residents to balance budget

A council has invited residents to draw up their own budgets to decide how £2.2 billion should be spent next year.

Essex County Council wants people to balance its budget, deciding which services they want, and submit their suggestions.

The council said it hoped to illustrate the pressures it faced and show that to raise funding in one area, money needed to be removed from another.

The budget maker can be found on the council's website.

Council leader Peter Martin said: "Any suggestions will be looked at to help the council set the budget for next year.

"The council has embarked on a £300m saving scheme, and this exercise will help us support that."
