Police crackdown reveals faults in 14 Essex vehicles

Half of the vehicles stopped for spot checks in Essex on Tuesday were found to have mechanical faults.

Police checked 27 vehicles in Thurrock as part of a crackdown on unsafe commercial vehicles and their drivers.

Ten drivers received prohibition notices taking their vehicles off the road, an Essex Police spokesman said.

Checks on driving hours revealed 272 offences and one driver was given a prohibition notice for this offence. Penalties totalling £2,930 were issued.
