Man 'lying in road' dies in Essex crash

A man reported to have been lying in the road in an Essex village has died after he was hit by a car.

Police said they received a call at 0125 BST from the driver of a Land Rover who said she had hit a man in Stapleford Abbotts, near Romford.

Officers arrived and gave emergency aid, but the man, believed to be 30, died at the scene at Oak Hill Road.

Witnesses who saw a pedestrian walking towards the village have been asked to contact police.
