Man 'in road' struck by car in Essex named

Police have named a 31-year-old man who was reportedly lying in the road before he was hit by a car in Essex.

Grant Barry, from Tysea Hill, Stapleford Abbotts, near Romford, was hit by a Land Rover in Oak Hill Road in the village early on Saturday.

Officers arrived and gave emergency aid but Mr Barry died at the scene.

Witnesses who saw a pedestrian walking towards the village have been asked to contact police.

The driver of the Land Rover called police at 0125 BST and reported that she had hit a man lying on the road.
