Mystery over seriously injured Essex man

Detectives are investigating how a man discovered seriously ill at his home in Essex came to be injured.

A friend found the victim, who is in his 40s, with head injuries at his house in Station Road, Westcliff, on Friday evening.

It is believed he was hurt up to 24 hours earlier and could have been in a road accident.

The man has undergone surgery and is described as in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

Det Insp Jim Sandford said: "We are trying to establish how this man was injured.

"We would like to hear from anyone who saw a badly injured man in the area."

Police have been carrying out investigations around the Station Road area and road policing officers are checking whether the man has been involved in a road crash, a police spokesman said.
