Man bailed over serious collision in Southend

A man arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving over a crash in which a woman was critically injured has been released on police bail.

A van, a Peugeot Sport, Volvo Vectra and Fiat Punto crashed in Sutton Road, Southend, on Wednesday morning.

A 66-year-old woman from Hockley was taken to the Royal London Hospital and a two-year-old boy was seriously hurt.

He is in Great Ormond Street Hospital. A 55-year-old man from Rayleigh has been bailed until December.

A 64-year-old woman and a 66-year-old woman were also injured in the crash and taken to Southend General Hospital.
