Man suffers serious burns in narrow boat fire in Harlow

A man is receiving treatment for 50% burns suffered during a fire on a narrow boat in Essex.

Crews rescued the man, believed to be about 50, from the boat moored on the canal near Burnt Mill, Harlow, at 2030 BST on Saturday.

The 39ft (12m) vessel was 100% alight and a gas cylinder was on board, the fire service said.

The man was taken to hospital and transferred to the specialist burns unit at Broomfield Hospital.

At the height of the incident, about 20 firefighters were accompanied by police.

Officers will work together to investigate the cause of the blaze, which was brought under control shortly after 2200 BST.
