Alan Lilley was the operations manager at Essex County Cricket Club
An executive at Essex County Cricket Club has resigned after police started investigating allegations of sexual assault at its Chelmsford ground.
Alan Lilley resigned from his post as operations manager at the club 10 days ago because he wanted a "healthier work/life balance", the club said.
The BBC understands Mr Lilley has not been arrested but is being investigated over claims of sexual assault.
A spokesman for Mr Lilley said he was unavailable for comment on Sunday.
Essex Police said in a statement: "Essex Police have received an allegation of sexual assault at a sports ground in Chelmsford on 10 September 2010 and sexual assaults on a number of other occasions."
