Power cut to 135 countryside homes in Essex

A power cut has left 135 homes in rural Essex, without electricity since the early hours of Wednesday morning when temperatures fell to -4C.

Engineers are working to restore power to the homes near Maldon. A spokesman said the cut was caused by damage to overhead lines near Woodham Mortimer.

UK Power Networks said engineers were restoring power to the homes in stages after damage was located and repaired.

Engineers are patrolling the power line route to check for other faults.
