Essex school closures continue for third day due to ice

More than 500 schools, nurseries and colleges in Essex have said they will remain closed for a third day because of snow and wintry conditions.

An additional hazard on Friday is ice forming on snow-hit roads after overnight temperatures plummeted.

Some trains on lines between Essex and London have been cancelled, delayed or are running with fewer carriages because of equipment problems.

Stansted Airport is open but flights may be hit by disruption elsewhere.

It advised passengers to check with their airlines for updates.

The Port of Tilbury remains closed and lanes are shut on some approach roads as lorries queue waiting for it to open.
