Temporary thaw brings ice hazard as temperatures fall

Temperatures rose overnight causing a temporary thaw in Essex but the cold will return, experts are predicting.

Because roads are wet police are warning of icy stretches developing and are asking drivers to take care.

Essex County Council received dozens of complaints for not gritting some paths during the wintry weather.

A council spokesman said pavements are not a priority and staff chose to attempt to keep the main road network clear instead.

Main roads in Essex are clear but many minor roads are still snowy and icy, police said.
