Thieves in Essex have stolen equipment from an ambulance leaving it unable to respond to emergency calls.

The theft of drugs, gas, a specialised satellite navigation system and a defibrillator happened in Seven Acres, Wickford on Thursday evening.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: "Potentially, the cardiac drugs that were stolen could be life-threatening."

The service urged whoever had stolen the drugs to hand them to the police.
