Colchester taxi driver robbed by passenger

A taxi driver has been left shaken after he was attacked and robbed by a passenger he had collected from outside a sports bar in Essex.

A man in his early 20s asked to be taken from the Dog and Pheasant in Nayland Road to the Greenstead estate in Colchester on Saturday afternoon.

As the silver Skoda Octavia pulled up to Scarfe Way, the passenger grabbed him and demanded money.

When no money was handed over, he attacked the driver and stole a phone.

The driver escaped from the car and saw the man remove the handheld PDA-style phone from its cradle on the dashboard.

Brown jacket

The man continued to threaten the driver until another man pulled him away.

The offender is described as about 5ft 3in (1.6m), of medium build, with short light brown hair and a small amount of stubble on his face.

He was wearing a light brown jacket, jeans and a light-coloured polo-style T-shirt.

Officers are keen to trace the man who intervened in the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Essex Police.
