An investigation has begun after an 18-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in Essex.

The woman was walking home at about 0030 BST on 29 May on Southchurch Road, Southend, when she became aware of a group of four men following her.

She was pulled into an alleyway by a man and attacked before breaking free and escaping.

Essex Police described her attacker as black, in his late late teens to early 20s and about 5ft 11in (1.8m).

Police said it was a busy Bank Holiday weekend following the first day of the Southend Airshow and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
