Homes lose power in Belchamp St Paul as cables fall

About 1,385 people in an Essex village were left without power after electricity cables were brought down by high winds.

Supplies to homes in Belchamp St Paul were cut after an overhead line fell in stormy weather at 06:50 GMT.

A spokesman for UK Power Networks said 95 homes were still without electricity as engineers worked to restore power.

A further 15 people in the village lost electricity after cables fell on to a tree branch at 22:29 GMT on Wednesday.

Supplies to those homes were back up by 23:20 GMT.
