Woman in Essex ditch drowned post-mortem examination shows

A woman found in a ditch in Essex on Saturday died from drowning a post-mortem examination has revealed.

The woman has been named by police as Jan Downey, 62, from Daws Hill in Sewardstone. A 62-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Police were contacted shortly after 08:00 GMT when a member of the public found the woman's body.

A family statement said: "Jan was a loving daughter, sister, mother and grandmother who will be sadly missed."

An Essex Police spokesman said the area had been sealed off and the death was being treated as "suspicious".

The man is being questioned at Harlow Police Station.
