Inquiry after police cars collide in Thornwood

Two police officers were injured when the patrol cars they were in collided in Essex.

An investigation has begun after the crash, between a Ford Focus and a Volvo, on London Road, Thornwood, at about 17:20 BST on Saturday.

Essex Police said the patrol cars were "attending different incidents at the time".

Two male officers, aged 29 and 34, who were in the Volvo, were treated in hospital for minor injuries.

A 30-year-old male officer, who was the sole occupant of the Focus, was badly shaken but did not need hospital treatment.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "The Volvo was using sirens and blue lights. The Focus was not travelling under emergency response conditions."

The road was closed for more than three hours while the vehicles were recovered and debris removed.

An investigation, led by the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, has started to establish the cause of the collision.
