A man has been jailed for 12 months for causing the death by careless driving of a motorcyclist in Essex.

Liam Sargeant, 21, of Chigwell, died when his Yamaha motorcycle was involved in a crash with a Ford Fiesta in Abridge on 23 July 2010.

Joseph Thomas, 24, of Millbank Avenue, Ongar, was sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court where he had admitted the charge at an earlier hearing.

Thomas was also disqualified from driving for four years.

He will have to take an extended driving test if he wants to reapply for his driving licence.
